History:
Historical records show that on June 28, 1934 the Chesterton Tribune reported:
“Mrs. Ruth Wollett entertained a group of Beverly Shores ladies last Friday afternoon and the organization of a women’s club was discussed.  Those present were enthusiastic and seemed to believe that a woman’s club was necessary at the present stage of development of this lake shore development.”
The club was finally “officially organized” in 1939.

The club claims Blue and Sand as its colors.

Membership is not limited to Beverly Shores residents; we have many ladies from the surrounding communities.

Mission:
The Mission of The Dunes Women’s Club is to serve and enhance its local community by:

  • improving its members through education;
  • supporting other organizations through donations; and
  • providing volunteer service for community projects.

Meetings:
DWC meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month at the Community House in Beverly Shores, IN.  There are no meetings in January, July and August.

Events/Activities/Holiday Marketplace

An annual Marketplace is held the weekend before Thanksgiving in the Community House, consisting of Gourmet Goodies, a Mistletoe Market and Holiday Greens.

"Gourmet Goodies" .........that is frozen soups, casseroles, breads and sweets......will be available for sale in the Community House at 40 W. Service Drive.  The Goodies are all homemade, and are sold on a first come, first serve basis.

"Mistletoe Market": Unique Holiday Gifts, Handmade cards and crafts, and Decorations

The "Holiday Greens" sale (wreathes, swags, garlands, etc.) need to be ordered in advance
usually before 11/11, with delivery or pick-up before Thanksgiving.

An order form is mailed to most Beverly Shores residents, and is also in the November issue of Sand Tracks.

Monetary donations are welcome.

Our relationship with Pine School

Dunes Women’s Club has had a long relationship with Pine Elementary School.

The Club will support educational endeavors through funding events at the school.  We have also provided books to teachers and students.

Our relationship with Beverly Shores Depot & Art Museum

DWC gives an annual donation of $1,000 to the Depot Museum.

From the Depot Website: The Depot Museum and Art Gallery is located within the South Shore Train Station in Beverly Shores, IN.  We were founded after the Dunes Women’s Club and other concerned citizens saved the Depot from destruction, organized to have it placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and raised funds to restore it.   When restoration was complete in 1998 the Depot Museum and Art Gallery was formed.

This is a quilt that the club made for the 50th Anniversary of Beverly Shores.

The 42 squares depict the different aspects of life in Beverly Shores and each exhibits the dedication and of a different member of the Dunes Women’s Club at that time

The quilt hangs in the Administration Building meeting room.

The Community House located on Service Drive just west of the Administration Building is the pride of the Dunes Women’s Club.

The house serves as the location for the monthly meetings, and the annual Holiday Marketplace in November.

The porch of the house serves as a community library.  Books are available for the taking anytime.  Donations of books in good condition are also welcomed.
