ABSR Membership Renewal!
Now is the time to renew your annual ABSR membership for 2024/2025. It is quick and easy. Renew online or download a membership form located on the sidebar of this webpage. If you have questions or need help, please call Nancy Nichols at nichols-nancy@comcast.com.
Houses in Beverly Shores are hard to find, especially in the dark, so consider installing a reflective address marker.
In phase one, ABSR is coordinated with the Beverly Shores Volunteer Fire Department to make a limited number of reflective address signs available at no cost. In phase two, we are asking homeowners to cover the cost of materials. The BSVFD will continue to donate their time to assemble and install the signs. The cost of the signs is $50.
Registration for Phase Two is closed, thanks to all who participated.
This initiative is voluntary. Donations are encouraged so that as many homes as possible can take part in this public safety program. Please make checks payable to ABSR and mail to P.O. Box 458.

ABSR Treasurer's Report
Paul Kleinaitis, ABSR's Treasurer prepared the following financial reports, the 2019-2024 historical spreadsheet and a comparison of fiscal year 2024 verses fiscal year 2023.
Fire Department Pre-planning Home VisitsAt a recent town council meeting Firefighter Jay Hennessey presented “2024 Town of Beverly Shores Fire Pre-Planning.” The purpose of the presentation was to explain how the Fire Department is trying to prepare to save lives and reduce injuries in case of fire.
The Shores Fire Department is offering free, in-home fire pre-planning for all residents. A Beverly Shores Volunteer Firefighter will come to your home to determine the best Fire Department access to your home in case of a fire and obtain other key information including the number of residents and pets, the location of the kitchen and bedrooms; and where the utilities enter the home.
To participate in fire pre-planning for your home, residents should call Hennessey at (505) 287-0059.

Nature Depends Upon Their Admonishing Smile
“But if a man would be alone, let him look at the stars. One might think the atmosphere was made transparent with this design, to give man, in the heavenly bodies, the perpetual presence of the sublime. Seen in the streets of cities, how great they are! If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown! But every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson could not have imagined, back in 1836 when he wrote those words, that there actually would be a future when the stars could not come out. Now we know that all the creatures of Nature need the starry sky for their existence. The following article explains that much more is at stake than our esthetic riches when the stars become invisible.

ABSR JOINS THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY IN THANKING ED BRACKEN AND THE CITZEN VOLUNTEERS FOR PROTECTING OUR LAKEFRONT
The morning of Saturday, October 23rd was sunny, the air was crisp, and the waves were gentle. It was a perfect day to honor Ed Bracken along with resident volunteers for their dedicated work and financial contributions in fixing the damage to our lakefront and road in late 2019-2020.
A crowd gathered at Rebora Plaza to sip cider and coffee while offering their support and congratulations to Ed. Town Council President, Geof Benson talked about the Town’s efforts to mitigate the damage from unprecedented high waves and winds. He acknowledged that it was a scary time, but how with Ed’s expertise and generous spirit our Town has able to reconfigure the lakeshore with protective armor stone, sand, and rip rap.
Benson also acknowledged the donations of money by residents and offered his sincere thanks to all the resident volunteers who donated their endless hours, patience and fortitude in guiding cars, bikers, and pedestrians along the Lake Front Drive so the work Ed and his crew could do the work as safely and as expeditiously as possible. Benson ended his remarks on a more somber tone, noting that the work continues as damage from water run-off and fall storms continues.
Benson presented Ed with a wooden plaque saying Bracken Beach to commemorate Ed’s work, which the Park Board will install at the gazebo at Rebora Beach, and Monique Rub and Bob Young presented the volunteers with a coffee mug capturing Ed comfortably sitting on his backhoe. The program ended with residents taking the mic and offering their personal thanks to Ed with humor and gratitude. Visit the ABSR website to view a short video of a portion of a documentary created by Jonathan Jackson about the emergency work done in 2020. It memorializes our lakefront in 2020.
